I have recently begun testing some of the newer computer technologies with SongShow Plus so that we here at R-Technics can provide our users with the most reliable information when it comes to compatibility issues.  Today I will be discussing SLI.  I will cover other technologies later in future posts.

SLI is a technology available only on NVidia based video cards.  It allows two paired video cards to run as one.  These cards must be identical.  SLI exists only on PCI Express mother boards with SLI enabled.  One major drawback is that SLI supports only a single monitor.

In testing I have found that SongShow Plus and SLI are not compatible.  Running in single monitor mode with SLI enabled there were a number of problems that would prevent you from being able to display a program in a service.  Simply unchecking "SLI Mode" in the Nvidia drivers does correct the problems but you will no longer be using both video cards as a single unit.

The lack of dual monitor support and the increased cost of an SLI system out weigh most, if not all, of the potential benefits that SLI could have provided.  SLI based motherboards cost on average $40 more.  Add to that the cost of  buying two $200 plus video cards and you've spent $440 that could have been used to just buy a better single video card.

In short, we do not currently support running SongShow Plus on a system with SLI enabled.

If there's no dual monitor support, then it doesn't sound like a big loss.

I can't imagine going back to single monitor mode.

Will you be looking at ATix' CrossFire(TM) version of SLI?

It appears that CrossFire also does not support dual monitors.

file searching by akins in Version 8.5

When searching for an image or video (e.g. looking for a background)
the listing is by file type and then name. This is very inconvenient and
the only program that I have where this is the default. Often I'm looking
for a named file and have to scroll completely through the list to make sure
that the file isn't of a type that I hadn't thought of. Is there any way to
change the default to the more common "name & file type." I've tried
everything I can think of w/o success. I'm sure there must be a way
since this is the most common file display format.

RE: Mobile Control not connecting to SSP program by Albion Bible Church in Version 8.5

Was able to correct problem by disabling IPV6 setting in Advance Windows Network Settings.  Thanks Brian, George and Brad for your assistance.

RE: PowerPoint by George in Version 8.5

Gary,

Regarding your question about the post 1809 WMV video issues - possibly.

That issue was only encountered when multiple high res (1920) videos were used so if this is created in the importer at less than 1920 then probably not.

RE: Timer with looping slideshow by akins in Version 8.5

I couldn't tell exactly what was causing it. The only conditions for which I
have tried using the timer with Improv was a continuously looping
set of announcements (~10) which had slides with a motion background and
some animated text. The count-down was to the next 1/2 hour.

Gary, it looks like you, me, and Joel are about the last of the "old-timers."

RE: Control SSP with Abelton Live through MIDI by George in Version 8.4

Hey Gary.

I believe there was some discussion of this (or something like it related to MIDI control) a while back but to date there are no MIDI control functions, in or out, in SongShow Plus.

RE: Slides fill half screen question by George in Version 8.5

Hi Hilda,

There are actually a number of ways to do this.

Several would involve changing the size of the display area is SSP but others would allow full screen with live video background.  You may even want fully supported text over live video via the DeckLink solution.  It really all depends on what the final result is that you want.

If you really want to keep the same setup it seems it may be about educating your operators, but if you are really looking for a different setup then I suggest you (or your video people) contact the support team and let them know what they want as a result and they can help to set it up.
