I know that most of you probably already do this, but this would be a neat thing for all of you who do contemporary services. I found out how to make backgrounds change with the drums. Put the song in more then once and then choose which verses you want per song and add different drum beats. For Example. Say, I am doing Lord, I Lift your name on high. I would add it in 4 times and for the 1st time, add 1st verse, Chorus, then the 2nd time, Chorus, then Verse, then the 3rd time, Verse and Chorus, and 4th time, chorus and verse. Then double hit the plus, the 1st one will make the words change and the next one will make the background change. Then when your drummer does a fill, hit the plus again and it will look like the background changed with the drummer. Also, add no transition. I am afraid this sounds confusing. Sorry, I am confused. Sure you can make V1,C be one program entry and C,V1 be another, etc, with each program item having its own background. But then what do you mean by "double hit the plus"? My understanding would be that each "+" would advance to, or within, a program item; say, from V1 to C. But you said no, the first would make the words change (put up V1?), the next would make the background change (put up C?). Sorry, I missed what you meant big-time. |

I too am confused. It would be cool if you could create a 1 song program, with one of the public domain songs and post it so we could see what you are doing.. I don't think you can do that here though.

What I think he is doing is creating 4 different songs. Each song
has its own background. Then when he hits the plus key, it goes
to the next item, chorus, then when he hits it again it goes to the
next song . . . I could be wrong.

hmmm to be able to have 4 diff backgrounds for the same song, u need to have the song saved 4 times (right?) .... I know you can change the background from the properties, but the moment you click OK, the background will change. (can't fade it or anything like that) It will be cool to be able to change (as you go forward with a transiction) the background for a song, without having to save the song 4 times. hmmm I think what i said it is as confusing as what spwiz532 said  |

I haven't tried it yet, but I think what SSPWiz was saying is to put the same song in the program list multiple times, then put different display settings for each one.

No, you do not need to have the song saved 4 times. In this thread there is some confusion between songs (in the database) linked to program items (in the program panel). It sounds like the original post is dealing with one song linked into the program four times, with two different verses assigned each program item. Then you apply the backgrounds to each program item in the program (not song in the database) for the four different backgrounds. What you can't do is to apply different backgrounds to different pages. Similarly you can't apply different transitions to sequences within the same program item, but by entering separate program items for each song part, you could use different transitions. The original post also says: "Then double hit the plus, the 1st one will make the words change and the next one will make the background change." As stated it doesn't make sense, something was probably left out? Again, the part of the drums is not clear - maybe what is intended is that when the drums aren't doing anything notable, one background is used, and when the drums are doing something notable, a different background is used. Sounds creative, but we'd like to know what was intended. |

I think the key is the verse sequence that SSPWiz532 stated.
"I would add it in 4 times and for the 1st time, add 1st verse, Chorus,
then the 2nd time, Chorus, then Verse, then the 3rd time, Verse and
Chorus, and 4th time, chorus and verse."
Notice that each instance of the song begins with the same part that
the previous instance ends with. So in other words, when he
advances to the next program item, the words do not change, but the
background does. He just advances to the next instance when there
is a fill or something special in the drums.
I think that was where he was going.

double clicking the "+" key takes you to the next program item. Thats why he uses it. But if you use the verse sequence you want then you can just single click the "+" key on the keyboard. |

I have been "layering" my worship presentations for almost 1 year, and I've become quite adept at creating high-impact visual worship experiences for our congregation.
I had come up against the same barrier as discussed in the previous threads, but, having little success in getting Fowler's cooperation in editing their source code, I decided to get creative.
I began by cloning stock music and editing (separating) the lines of lyrics so as to create more lines of music per song. Do this editing
gradually since your song database is probably quite large.
It is now common for me to have anywhere from 6 to 10 lines of instruction per song within a program; sometimes I have as many as 60 lines of instruction per program! Of course, this process may take as much as 2 hours or more to create a program that flows well. But, the effect can be quite dramatic and almost (emotionally) overwhelming for the worshiper.
Whatever you do, please conform to the "enhance but don't distract" principle. And yes, use the "+" whenever possible to step orderly through your program, but, memorize the other key functions as well. That way, you can minimize your own (inevitable) distractions that come with running SSP, yet enjoy worship yourself.

Now the next question for Erik is: what background change is made on behalf of the drummer? That is, what background style is used during the song normally and what style is used during the fill moment?
I realize it is impossible to verbally describe a video or graphics, at least I couldn't do it, but I thought you might want to take a stab at it anyway since it is a creative idea.

Video Backgrounds are used mostly. You can do the Static ones. During the fill, nothing happens, however after the fill, the background changes, it should look like whenever the drummer hits the symbol, the background changes, kinda like it is hooked up to the computer. What would be real nice is if someone literally hook up a drum set, like get wireless sensors and put on all of the drum heads and symbols and whenever the computer recognizes a fill, it automatically changes backgrounds after the fill is done. Now, for the churches who have electronic drum sets, they could just hook it into the computer and it does it, but i doubt it someone will ever create that nor i don't think a lot of people would use it if they did. I did the multiple backgrounds during Bible School the past 2 years. I got that Idea from Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY who also uses (Well, at the time, they used it) SSP. That is how I found out about the trick.

AVI is a wrapper format that can contain audio and video in just about any format, created with just about any CODEC. Part of the problem is that once in the AVI wrapper it is not obvious what file encode types are being used. It is possible that either the audio or the video in the AVI file is not supported in SSP.
That said, even if something is not supported we would expect that we can make notification or at least exit gracefully without SSP dying.
Dick - If you can contact the support team they can verify the behavior and get one or two of the files you are using for testing.

RE: Bug in 2/26/10 build by akins in User Support - V7- I might add to what George said by directing you to "presets" for songs and other items. We use somewhat similar formats for songs and scriptures each Sunday and I have "preset" these for quick application. I then can make modifications as desired for a particular Sunday.

RE: How to use ssptimer files by akins in User Support - V7- Just select the type you want (5 min, etc.) from the list and place it in the program. You can then edit the timer changing font, size, color (just two), placement, and two lines of text. Actually, the editing choices are fairly limited and have been the subject of wishes for sometime, but you can usually play around and get a decent look. Right clicking on the timer in the program and selecting "display properties" at the top of the list will allow you to add background color, images, and/or videos and you can apply "advance effects" to any of these.

Right-Click copy/paste menu does not work in PPT song import panel (TS098) by George in Troubleshooting- Symptom:
During a Song import from PPT the right-click menu is no longer available in the Slide Text box when importing song text from a PPT. This may cause difficulty in editing content. Import is still possible and text entry and deletion are possible, only the right click menu is affected.
Possible Cause:
Unknown - the root cause of this is still under investigation.
Possible Solution:
Import is still possible and text entry and deletion are possible. The CTRL-X, CTRL-C and CTRL-V keyboard shortcuts work as well. If a significant change in the arrangement of the text in the PowerPoint file is needed, this can be done using Microsoft PowerPoint.

December 2009 Edition - Bug Fixes (SSP070) by George in SongShow Plus IssuesThere are some previously reported bugs that have been fixed in the December 2009 Edition:
- Drag and drop in Win XP was broken and fixed in the Beta cycle.
- Quick Message was broken and fixed in the Beta cycle.
- Live Video was broken and fixed in the Beta cycle. This fix was an improvement of the previous patch that was required to use the Live Video Plug-in.
- An issue with nvidia driver version 196.21 that broke the SSP Beta on XP was corrected.
- Print Slideshow and song list selection spinners grayed out
- Builder re-run error causing file browser to open unexpectedly.
- H.264 issue with playback of .m4v, .mp4v, and .mpg4 video corrected.
- Path displayed incomplete when adding sub-folders to panels.
- Snowflake Wipe transition not working as expected.
- Font selection when editing text in the Slide Show Builder not working as expected.
- Background Improv folder navigation and state save corrected.
- Monitor options placements selector not working as expected.
- CTRL-V does not paste copied objects as expected in Slide Show Builder.

H.264 videos or thumbnails may cause SSP to be unstable and lock up (TS097) by George in Troubleshooting- Symptom:
H.264 Video or thumbnails may cause SSP to be unstable and lock up when added or viewed.
Possible Cause:
It appears that there are some H.264 video that can cause trouble in SSP. At this time this is very rare, however, the root cause of this is still under investigation.
Possible Solution:
This was discovered using movie trailer files that would play fine in applications other than SSP. At this time there is no solution but it is best to try a different file to make sure it is not a wider issue. Please contact the Support Team and provide the video file for analysis.

I just tried this using blank slides entered as program elements and got the same expected behavior I described before. Are you using "blank" blank slides (default blank slide is black color only) or do you have something else set for your blank slides?
I would say at this point if the behavior persists and you can duplicated it, contact the support team so they can do a remote with you and actually see what is going on.

I too would recommed that you backup/archive/zip your current R-Technics folder and install the evaluation of version seven. If the PC cannot handle it, which I doubt, do a complete uninstall of Version 7 and go back to version 5.5.
It is my understanding that version 7 is much more stable, and can function more efficiently on an older machine than version 5.5 can.

To add yet another fly into the ointment...
I didn't realize that my MoBo has a 4 year old (2 yr older than the mobo) chip on it (intel 945). So even though the processor and motherboard can support up to 4 GB of RAM, the chipset can only address 3.2 GB of RAM.
What I am most upset about is that the board advertised that it could support up to 4 GB of RAM, but didn't say it could only address 3.2. Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought this board. Time for an upgrade. Now I gotta find a board that supports the RAM that I just bought for this board.

Video file types supported in Video Chain (MI016) by George in Media IssuesThe video file extensions that are supported in SongShow PlusTM for the Video Chain tool are a subset of the video file extensions that are supported in SSP globally.
Keep in mind the required codec/filter still needs to be available on the system for proper playback of these file formats.

It just seems like a "No Brainer", because it's a basic feature to support. ESPECIALLY, because we're dealing with a projection type of program. Like I said, PowerPoint supports it and probably has for years... I guess it just confuses me as to why it wasn't always a part of SSP, being the awesome program that it is. GIF's MUST be harder to deal with than I think.

I have updated to the december release. It appears the problem has gone away for the time being. I noticed there was an update in the visualitation'S .dll . Also this machine is 4+ years old. I wonder if the video card might not be beefy enough for the improvements you have give the program during that time. I did run the hardware test and it didn't have a problem with the card.
Well, the problem is under control for the time being. Let's let it die.

As Joel said, add the slide show to a program, save the program, and then Package to Go.
You can also save the SSB to an external drive, and you can copy it to another computer. The down side to this is all the linked files (images and videos) will need to be copied also, and then pasted to a relative location on the other PC.

There is the debate between Linux, Mac and Windows. Then there is the debate between what Distro.
But Linux is becoming increasingly popular. You see it more and more often on the laptops of those setting in StarBucks.
But, all I'm saying is that if SSP could open up to the different platforms, that would be great.
And there will always be bugs in programs, no matter what. That is unavoidable.
