I am in the middle of negotations for pay increase and am having trouble explaining my job to people who have no idea what I do but expect the service to run smoothly on Sunday morning.  I have been paid to set up songshow for over 10 years now and have basically been ignored by all except when there is a mistake - for example I am never invited to the Tuesday morning staff meetings but am considered a staff member.  My job is vague - basically I get handed things and I make them work - could be songshow, powerpoint, running videos, converting videos, making sure computer is working, fixing computer if needed, etc.  This is a fun job but stressful and I am good at it and maybe I should learn to be more modest.  I started in the church as Admin Assistant and when I had babies stayed home but the person who took over for me did not enjoy setting up songshow so I was hired to do that part of the job for her and am now working 5 hours a week plus being hired out for rentals and functions at the church.

If you don't mind can I find out some information from this wise pool.

Are you a volunteer or paid to set up songshow?
What is the expectations for your job/volunteer position?
Are you accountable to anyone the work you do?
What is your title? job description?
Those who are paid do you get reviews and salary increases?

What can I do to make people around me see that I am a valuable asset to the church and with my wealth of knowledge it isn't as simple as anyone could do this job and they could find someone else tomorrow.

Thanks Hilda

No pay, no job description, no title, no supervisor (good), no respect (except for my wife who sees how much I do) -- I think most of this
just goes with the job. I spend the better part of 8 hours each week, which is twice what the worship leader does for $600/month.
I'm sure the situation would be different is we all went to seminary and got a degrees in "divine media presentation" and then were called
the "ministers/pastors of media." Too bad Paul didn't look far into the future and mention what we do as a spiritual gift
Love the serving without reward.

I'm putting in 10-20 hours per week as a volunteer Graphics Coordinator. Much of that time is spent in Photoshop and Slide Show Builder putting together graphics for the sermon, announcements and such.

I also have 2 other volunteers that work with me. I do projection 2 weeks every month and they each take 1. But I still do the sermon slide show and announcement slides. Whoever is doing projection, puts together the SSP program for the services.

I put together a list of what all I do, which also includes updating the church's Facebook page, etc.

I would say you should keep track of how much time you spend and make it specific as possible what you are doing during that time. My volunteer were very surprised that it's easy, even with all my prep ahead of time, to spend 2-3 hours on Friday night to be ready for services.

I am the Technical Director for my church, and I basically have the same position as you. However I am able to attend staff meetings when I can. I am a paid staff member but along with the duties you described, I am also on-call for technical issues for all PC's in the church as well as all the equipment.
As for who I report to, it is a complicated setup. We have a Senior Pastor and a Deacon in charge of the Technical Equipment. So I report to both, but the Deacon also reports to me since he is our sound man. I do not get any reviews and pay is based on how the church finances are doing. If we do well, I can propose a raise, but if not, I have to expect a cut.

I would definitely write up a job description and a list of all your responsibilities and have a meeting with the staff/elders and discuss what you want, ie. respect, attend staff meetings, etc....

stroke default?? by akins in Version 8.5

I'm tired of having the stroke show up where and how I don't want it.
When I go to apply or change the stroke it gives the option of using the
default or making a change. I want to set the default to something I might
actually use, but I can't find anything about the stroke default in the Help,
User guide, Knowledge base, etc. Can someone tell me how I can set the
default -- or, at least, turn it off?

RE: export slide show as video? by George in Version 8.5

Dick.
This is not a tool that is available in SSB however there are several 3rd party screen capture tools that you can use (some free) that will also capture audio.  I think you would just need to make sure your intended screen res was set before starting but it should be fairly straight forward.

RE: Bug in wait time?? by akins in Version 8.5

Thanks, Joel

It certainly seems like that is the case. It saddens me to see, what once was
by far the best church display software, now not keeping up with user
desires/needs. Nothing in the tech world is forever!

Stay safe.

RE: Problem with Entrance Effect? by iamgap in Version 8.5

If I understand what you're describing, this has been an issue since version 8.0. If you turn off (or don't use) animate first step {or something like that}, this issue goes away. Unfortunately, you have to animate first step if you want any slide to appear blank before showing the first item. There is a work-around for this, but it doesn't look as good if the animations don't match the transition.

RE: Abbreviation of Bible version? by George in Version 8.5

Hi Joel.

That will work when projecting the scriptures but what Dick was looking for was a setting for the display in the program panel.  Unfortunately there is no setting for this.

RE: file searching by osborn4 in Version 8.5

Agreed. I would love to have an alpha sort order available. I don't care if a video is an AVI, WMV or MP4. I want to find the video.

AAH! Multi-line display works even though it takes up a lot of vertical space.

Windows 10 Mobile Control App by George in Mobile Apps

There is a SongShow Mobile Control app available that was originally developed with Windows Phone and the like in mind but we know what happened there.

This app is still available and works great as a troubleshooting tool or even for control of another machine.  This works on Windows 10 only.  It was tested on Windows 10 Home and Pro on a desktop and should work on any Windows 10 laptop or Surface device, though not sure about ARM devices.

This can be found by searching for SongShow Mobile Control in the Microsoft Store in Windows 10 and installing from there.
