NICE!!

Just keep it backed up and protected AMAP from hackers.

It stinks losing all those post from the Fowler forum.

Yes. Good stuff.

I gotta admit. I don't understand a business not keeping something as valuable as those forums backed up on a regular basis.

But then, I probably don't know the entire story, either.

We have a disaster recovery plan in place for SSPlash.com.  The site is backed up daily so should a serious probelm occur, we can go back to the last known good backup.  Today, Reid performed a test to confirm that we are keeping sufficient backups of all of the various systems involved that make SSPlash.com work.

Hey all!

I just wanted to extend my most sincere thanks to the programmers at RTechnics for the fabulous Customer Service they gave regarding a particularly nasty problem that I've had for a while.  Fowler's initial support drove me to look at other programs like Mediashout and EasyWorship, but once everyone at RTechnics took over and actually worked on my problem, the craziness stopped!

Now, I'm a happy camper, my computer runs well, and I don't have to look for alternate software, which makes the finance committee VERY happy!   This Sunday marked the first Sunday of the fix and everything worked great!  Thanks guys!

I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Jess

Jessica,

Thank you for the positive feedback and I am very happy that your problem has been resolved!  We continually strive to work with the Fowler technical support staff to find ways to improve 1st tier technical support, which is the level of support for which they are responsible.  I believe that users are generally satisfied with the level of support provided by that team.

I reviewed your problem with David Rencher who is on staff here at R-Technics and who now heads up 2nd tier technical support for SSP.  He reminded me that the problem you were experiencing was actually an issue with your system’s swap file.  Having been personally involved with resolving this problem myself, and being frustrated at not seeing an actual SSP defect, I’m glad that he caught this.  It helps that David has had considerable experience resolving Microsoft Windows problems in previous jobs.

I have done this on another PC, but didn't notice a big difference. But I haven't tried it on a newer/faster PC. Are you saying that if I put the swap file on another drive, that it will improve SSP performance?

I just thought of something. Plug a thumb drive into the back of the PC, and set it as your swap file location. That should be pretty fast with a USB 2.0 port.

Swap files in general should not be changed unless you have a very thorough understanding of what they are and what purposes you are hoping to accomplish by changing them.

Essentially, Microsoft Windows uses the swap file as though it were more RAM... albeit really slow RAM.  It swaps data in and out of there depending on how much real RAM is in use.

As Doug mentioned, Jessica's particular issue was not specifically related to SSP, but was rather the result of a peculiar WinXP behavior with her swap file settings.

USB would degrade your system a bit; not even Firewire is up to speed. However, if you have sufficient memory you may not swap very often.

Hi!

Wow!  There's been quite a bit of discussion about my little post!  Unfortunately, the problem we thought was resolved, wasn't.  Yesterday the program lost everything DURING service.  I'm on hold with Fowler now trying to get through to customer support.  5 minutes and counting!  (But it will be worth it if I'm able to get the problem fixed (big "if").  Everyone says it's not an SSP issue, but I don't have problems with other programs in Windows, and I can't figure out why SSP is the only one that wigs out on me (it's also the most important program on this computer ).  Hopefully this will get solved soon, because I've got a Senior Minister that's very frustrated with the technical problems.  Personally, I think SSP is the best on the market, but only when it works!

I'll try to keep everyone up to date on how this goes.  I can't be the only one with this issue.  Serves me right for getting a PC that's too good!

God Bless!
Jess

Bug in 2/26/10 build by infotech in User Support - V7

I have a big problem.  I downloaded the new build and now I can no longer "right click" in only one part - but a very important part - of the program.  Each week I have been importing the songs for our Sunday service from our old powerpoint slides.  From Songs>Import From>PowerPoint Presentation, I can scroll to the folder on my computer that contains all of our song presentations.  Choosing one song brings it up in the "Import Song from PowerPoint" dialog box.  I then click on a slide and the contents of that frame shows up in the text box.  It's here I am having a problem - I can't edit the text.  For example, in the very first frame of each of my ppt presentations we have the title, author and first few lines of the song.  In SSP this formats, for some reason, with the title and author at the bottom of the text box - so I have to right click on the title and author info, cut, and then paste it in at the top. Then I cut the author and lyrics out, leaving just the title so I can click on the "Title" button and insert the title into SSP.  Same method for the author - and then the lyrics.  It's a bit cumbersome, but it works okay.  Until now - now, for some strange reason, I can no longer right click in this part of the program.  I can right click elsewhere in the program, and in my computer - so it's not my computer or my mouse.  I also opened SSP in our presentation computer and experience the exact same behaviour.  So the only explanation is that something has happened in the newest version.  HELP!!

I will be able to bring songs into the song library from SongSelect (but I don't really like to have to do that because it's much more time consuming to search CCLI than my computer files).  However I have tested and found that I can get "new material" through that method and the cut and paste edit function works.  It seems to be strictly a problem with importing from powerpoint presentations into the song library.

H.264 videos or thumbnails may cause SSP to be unstable and lock up (TS097) by George in Troubleshooting

Symptom:
H.264 Video or thumbnails may cause SSP to be unstable and lock up when added or viewed.

Possible Cause:
It appears that there are some H.264 video that can cause trouble in SSP. At this time this is very rare, however, the root cause of this is still under investigation.

Possible Solution:
This was discovered using movie trailer files that would play fine in applications other than SSP.  At this time there is no solution but it is best to try a different file to make sure it is not a wider issue.  Please contact the Support Team and provide the video file for analysis.

RE: Audio clip doesn't restart when slide show restarts by George in User Support - V7

Hmm - Interesting...

I just tried this using blank slides entered as program elements and got the same expected behavior I described before.  Are you using "blank" blank slides (default blank slide is black color only) or do you have something else set for your blank slides?

I would say at this point if the behavior persists and you can duplicated it, contact the support team so they can do a remote with you and actually see what is going on.

RE: SSP Version 5.5 with SongSelect Online by iamgap in User Support - V5.5

I too would recommed that you backup/archive/zip your current R-Technics folder and install the evaluation of version seven. If the PC cannot handle it, which I doubt, do a complete uninstall of Version 7 and go back to version 5.5.

It is my understanding that version 7 is much more stable, and can function more efficiently on an older machine than version 5.5 can.

RE: 32bit vs. 64bit by iamgap in User Support - V7 on Windows 7

To add yet another fly into the ointment...

I didn't realize that my MoBo has a 4 year old (2 yr older than the mobo) chip on it (intel 945). So even though the processor and motherboard can support up to 4 GB of RAM, the chipset can only address 3.2 GB of RAM.

What I am most upset about is that the board advertised that it could support up to 4 GB of RAM, but didn't say it could only address 3.2. Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought this board. Time for an upgrade. Now I gotta find a board that supports the RAM that I just bought for this board.

Video file types supported in Video Chain (MI016) by George in Media Issues

The video file extensions that are supported in SongShow PlusTM for the Video Chain tool are a subset of the video file extensions that are supported in SSP globally.

Keep in mind the required codec/filter still needs to be available on the system for proper playback of these file formats.

  • Video Clip (*.avi)
  • Video (*.mpg4)
  • Video (*.mp4)
  • Video (*.m4v)
  • Video (*.mp4v)
  • Video (*.mov)
  • Movie Clip (*.mpg)
  • Movie Clip (*.mpeg)
  • Movie Clip (*.mpe)
  • Movie Clip (*.m1v)
  • Windows Media Audio/Video File (*.wmv)

If some of the listed types do not appear in the Video Chain panel, review the instructions for selecting visible video types in the KB article MI010.

RE: Animated GIF Support by pgulezian in User Support - V7

Cool!! I wonder when they'll finally add this as a feature??? I also wonder WHY it hasn't been added in the past. It just seems like a "No Brainer", because it's a basic feature to support. ESPECIALLY, because we're dealing with a projection type of program. Like I said, PowerPoint supports it and probably has for years... I guess it just confuses me as to why it wasn't always a part of SSP, being the awesome program that it is. GIF's MUST be harder to deal with than I think.

Thanks for your reply.

If you can reproduce it, I'd contact tech support.

You might want to try installing the latest release to see if that shakes anything loose.

Does December 2009 Edition Support Unicode? by CFC in User Support - V7

My license expires at the end of this month. The beta version I tried didn't support Russian language when displaying songs. There is no point for me to renew license unless the problem was fixed (September 2009 Edition supports Russian songs). I'm sure there are many other non-English churches that would be interested in SSP if it supported unicode.

To SSP developers: any news regarding unicode support?

RE: SSP Crashes when adding a song by KingsleyUMC in User Support - V7

Update 3:

I have updated to the december release. It appears the problem has gone away for the time being. I noticed there was an update in the visualitation'S .dll . Also this machine is 4+ years old. I wonder if the video card might not be beefy enough for the improvements you have give the program during that time. I did run the hardware test and it didn't have a problem with the card.

Well, the problem is under control for the time being. Let's let it die.

RE: Exporting slide show from one computer to another by iamgap in User Support - V7

As Joel said, add the slide show to a program, save the program, and then Package to Go.

You can also save the SSB to an external drive, and you can copy it to another computer. The down side to this is all the linked files (images and videos) will need to be copied also, and then pasted to a relative location on the other PC.

RE: Computer Setups by norvilles in The 'Wave Pool'

Well I see what you mean.
There is the debate between Linux, Mac and Windows. Then there is the debate between what Distro.

But Linux is becoming increasingly popular. You see it more and more often on the laptops of those setting in StarBucks.

But, all I'm saying is that if SSP could open up to the different platforms, that would be great.

And there will always be bugs in programs, no matter what. That is unavoidable.

Unless its a simple:

class Driver {
static void main(string[]args) {
System.out.println("Hello World");
}
}

RE: Alpha Channel Video Over Motionback Video by techarts in User Support - V7

Still no luck on SlideShow method but the Program video method worked very well using the Alpha Channel "bridge" or "chorus1", "chorus2", "verse1", etc with a motion background display property.

I'll keep working on the Slide Show method though until I get what you are saying it should do...

RE: Screen Layout? by osborn4 in The 'Wave Pool'

We use simple fades throughout and it really does soften the delivery.

I use graphics and some motion behind all the lyrics and will vary where the lyrics are based on the background. I use different but related background throughout a service.

I add (through advanced effects) a reverse shadow (from lower right) of .2 with no blur. That really makes the characters pop on a lighter background.
