BUG: Win 10 menu won't show after using SSP 8.4

After we use and close SSP 8.4 (Aug.9 build), the Windows 10 menu will not display. By the Windows 10 menu, I mean the panel that appears when pushing the WinKey, or by clicking on the window at the far left of the task bar (in default location). This means that other programs can't be accessed, and novice users don't even know how to shut down or restart the computer.

This happens to me at home, and on our new Win10 computer at the church.

This does not happen with Slide Show Builder, only the main program.

If this is a known issue, I'm sorry. If there is a known solution, please point me to it.

Looking at the number of hits received when searching for "Win 10 menu not working" I'm guessing this is a
Win 10 bug not related to SSP. I lose the fancy tiled menu about every day and have to restart to get it back.

Maybe, but I only have this problem when running SSP.

Maybe try opening MS menu while SSP is still open to see if it is due to opening or closing SSP.

I'll give that a try. 

I notice that it doesn't always happen. So it may be a specific component in SSP that causes a conflict with the Win10 menu system. If I have time, I may try to dial down to which part of the program is the trouble-maker. On the other hand, it could simply be a matter of how long the program runs, and that a minor conflict is sometimes, but not always recoverable. (I'm far from an expert on how these things work - I'm just guessing here.)

Note that it's not just the Win10 menu that's affected; all the right-click menu options for any program on the task bar are also affected. The Win10 issue is the most problematic, since it makes it difficult to restart or shut down Windows. Alt-F4 on the desktop brings up the shut-down/restart (etc.) dialog, but not everyone knows that.

I have found that the best way to restart explorer is Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Task Manager or right-click the Task Bar (bottom of the screen) and select Task Manager. With Windows 10 you have to click More Details to get the menus. Select the File menu and then select New Task (Run...). Type explorer.exe and click OK.

We have seen lots of changes in  SSP over the years:
mostly for the better, a few not so hot.
This forum has been the first of my browser bookmarks,
but now is largely, and disappointingly, inactive.
One thing is certain - things change!

Just to clarify - is the application (SSP 8.4) shutting down or is the system shutting down?  

Did you have prior installs of 8.4 that did not behave this way or was this your first 8.4 install?

In any case, you should contact the support team so that they can take a look at this.

RE: Stage Monitor Settings by George in Version 8.4

You can set independent Slide Properties for the Stage monitor, which does include margin settings.  My guess is the if you have less real estate on the Stage monitor then you probably want to make sure the Shrink to Fit option is selected for the Stage monitor - this will make sure the text fits as expected.

If you need additional guidance on this contact the support team for a walk through.

OK - Glad this will work for you.

A few things to keep in mind for the Quick List:
  1. There is only one Quick List per display - you don't save them like programs. 
  2. The Quick List loads every time you launch SongShow Plus.
  3. Related to #2 -- If you add something to the Quick List but then change the source material outside of SongShow Plus, it can cause issues with SongShow Plus starting correctly.

Control SSP with Abelton Live through MIDI by agathon in Version 8.4

Hello group,

I was wondering if anyone was possibly able to control SSP through MIDI commands from something like Abelton Live?  Currently at my church, the worship leader uses Abelton Live with MIDI to send out light cues to our DMX system.  I'm also wondering if it is possible to do so with lyrics in SSP where Abelton Live sends out cues to an SSP machine with MIDI to change the slides automatically.

    RE: SSB: copy background to multiple slides by akins in Version 8.4

    After a 1/2 hour with GFM, we finally got it figured out.
    Turns out that all items (like backgrounds) selected on
    an individual slide have priority over the same item
    selected via themes. This makes some sense, but wasn't
    obvious to either GFM or me! Removing the standard
    copy/paste options for backgrounds was a mistake in
    my opinion. It is so much simpler for most tasks and is
    something everyone understands, but is not likely to
    be activated.

    Also I don't embed anything - I have exactly the same files in the
    same locations on my home workstation and church projection computer.
    That way it's easy to copy programs back and forth.

    OK - I see.  The auto update from the app store would be in your local settings and certainly would update when they become available if you have that set.  For our part, the last update to MC was on 3/14 and there have been no changes since then to MC.  The recent update to SSP had no changes related to the app. 

    Hopefully that answers your question.
