Hello,

I have someone who wants to revamp our announcement slides and he is using PowerPoint to do this.

What is the best way to do this?
Would I edit the slide and copy PowerPoint Presentation Slide, since not all of our announcement slides will be replaced.

I am not proficient in PowerPoint.

My other question is how would this be done for any slides that are in the quick list?     (I have no idea how to place slides in the quick list....)

Thank you in advance,

Laurie

For consistency, I would highly recommend giving them a brie course on SSB and having them use that. SSP can be installed on as many computers as you want, in workstation mode. It does require an activation, but there is no cost outside of the license you have already purchased.

If they don't want to learn SSB, then you can only import PPT as static images (JPG or BMP, I believe) as a Slide Show. You would then use the Merge feature to merge the slide in with your current slide show. All transitions from PPT would be lost.

I don't use the quick list, so hopefully someone that does can chime in for those.

Thank you.

I will pass this information on.
I know some of the slides he has created are animated.....

Thanks,

Laurie

The animated slides could be expected as WMV, then put in SSB as a video slide.

To add to this...

Yes - I would also recommend them using SSB to create/edit.

If they insist on using PPT, the finished PPT product can be converted to a WMV video in SSP by using the PPT import option.  This would be done from the Video media tab:
  • Create/Acquire > Microsoft PowerPoint Importer
  • Select your PPT
  • Set Video Options (matching the output target is prudent here)
  • Import

The result will be a WMV video of the PPT file that can be used in a program.

This is great info.

Will this potentially cause the lock-up/hang issue that is affecting 1809 and newer OS?

Gary,

Regarding your question about the post 1809 WMV video issues - possibly.

That issue was only encountered when multiple high res (1920) videos were used so if this is created in the importer at less than 1920 then probably not.

file searching by akins in Version 8.5

When searching for an image or video (e.g. looking for a background)
the listing is by file type and then name. This is very inconvenient and
the only program that I have where this is the default. Often I'm looking
for a named file and have to scroll completely through the list to make sure
that the file isn't of a type that I hadn't thought of. Is there any way to
change the default to the more common "name & file type." I've tried
everything I can think of w/o success. I'm sure there must be a way
since this is the most common file display format.

RE: Timer with looping slideshow by akins in Version 8.5

I couldn't tell exactly what was causing it. The only conditions for which I
have tried using the timer with Improv was a continuously looping
set of announcements (~10) which had slides with a motion background and
some animated text. The count-down was to the next 1/2 hour.

RE: Control SSP with Abelton Live through MIDI by George in Version 8.4

Hey Gary.

I believe there was some discussion of this (or something like it related to MIDI control) a while back but to date there are no MIDI control functions, in or out, in SongShow Plus.

RE: Slides fill half screen question by George in Version 8.5

Hi Hilda,

There are actually a number of ways to do this.

Several would involve changing the size of the display area is SSP but others would allow full screen with live video background.  You may even want fully supported text over live video via the DeckLink solution.  It really all depends on what the final result is that you want.

If you really want to keep the same setup it seems it may be about educating your operators, but if you are really looking for a different setup then I suggest you (or your video people) contact the support team and let them know what they want as a result and they can help to set it up.
