This Sunday afternoon I updated to the newest version of SSP, which means I also got all of the new Slide Show Builder updates. I use SSB for all of our slide shows in SSP (Every Sunday).  Well Monday Afternoon I received a call from our pastor and he told me he wanted me to put some things on the screen for the Wednesday night service (this was the first time he's ever asked for "Sermon Notes" on a Wednesday night). I told him O.k. and he sent me his notes. He always copies (not attach) into an email and sends it to me. I open his email as html and everything looks fine.

I put this Slide show off till Wednesday morning because of the new program and I knew this wasn't going to be an edit of the previous weeks sermon like I normally do. (and I'm trying to see all of the Midnight Oil webcasts from the CMN Conference before they get deleted).

I Wednesday morning I opened SSB and started by using the Text slides Builder. It is great and much better than starting from Scratch. I really like the ability to set Global settings for the slideshow like margins, font, shadows, and even horizontal and vertical spacing. the other thing that I figured out is how you could just paste the entire document and separate the show into individual slides. But there were a few things that I'd like to see changed.

Here they are:
1) My Bullets didn't import correctly they came in as " n " (space-n-space) and I'm o.k. with that. But when I highlighted them and pressed "CTRL- PERIOD" to add the bullet it just added the bullet. It did not overwrite the highlighted text (I got over this but I would like it if it were changed)

2) Because of the length of the slide show and I was doing it at work  I would like to save the show during my input process. This stems from the fact that when I got it done the First time SSB locked up (went to 99 % CPU usage for over 8 minutes) and I had to end the task and as soon as I exited the wizard I forgot to save .

3) When I finished the wizard the first time I had all of my bullets (3-4 per slide) just like I wanted them and finished the wizard only that my bullets were in a single text box. I had to start over from scratch in order to animate them in one at a time. (When we use bullets can they automagically be different elements on the Slide so they can be transitioned on/off individually?).

4) When I used the Insert Slide Break (CTRL-ENTER) it always added an enter to the end of the line. This is a problem since if you use Grow and/or Shrink text to fit it just adds another line of text (Blank) that makes the text smaller. This is usually a problem when I paste but It may be my problem and I'm learning to "deal with it".

5) When I Copied and Pasted in the Wizard (from the wizard text box to the wizard text box and/or in the "Split Text" textbox) the Text looked correctly but didn't keep the Underline formatting. (this was also the case when copying and pasting in SSB Also(I think opening the editing text and then pasting over in another Editing text box)).

6) (I really struggled with putting this one here as It's not something I'd use very often) Is there a way to select the title of each slide when using the "Split Text" box instead of using one title for all of the slides.

7) Lastly in the wizard itself can something be added for slides that don't have titles (you either have to put the same title on all slides or name each one individually and it you don't name the slide the title is "Slide x") just a check box that changed per slide for No title sounds good to me.

I'd like to say how great it is to have a company that actually listens to what the end user wants and thank you for that. Also, I'd like to reiterate that the Text slides Builder is much better than what we have had in the past and once again R-technics and SSP is raising the bar in the Worship Software Industry.

Thankfully,
Chris Garrett

P.S. If this needs to go somewhere else please put it there.

Thanks,
Christopher E. Garrett

Looks like great additions. I'd put the ones you feel the most strongly about in the wish list. Except I guess many of them look like potential bug fixes.

I'm looking forward to trying this feature myself.

I have noticed this in past versions of SSB, and it is the reason I never used Bullet spacing.

When Center Aligned and Right Aligned, the text is pushed off the right side of the screen. I was able to prevent this by setting the default value to '0' instead of '720'. With the new version of SSB, the lowest you can set it to is .1%, so Center Aligned is now Right/Center Aligned. I have found that anything .3% or more does push the text from going off the edge.

Yes, I do set the bullet to nothing; to pevent them overlaying the first letter. For those that are looking for this setting, there is a Bullets tab on the Slide Text display properties.

GoFishMedia.net, reseller and support provider for SSP have PurposeWare available.

However, I'm not sure who wrote it.

Just doing follow Up on my "Issues"

It's been ~1.5 months and I haven't seen responces to these concerns.

Are they being corrected in the Newest version, Just forgotten about or do I need to add them to the Wish List?

cgarrett,

My apologies for the delay...  As I said, I had reviewed the list but wanted to give you some substantive responses.  Alas, this fell off my radar so thanks for the nudge...

I see that your list is a mix of things so I will address each one individually:
Disclaimer: I am using the latest beta so some of the items you mentioned may have been fixed since your original post...

1) RE: Bullet Copy/Import - This actually has 2 parts...

Part 1 - I am not sure why your bullets did not copy/paste correctly.  This was tested quite a bit.  Was a non standard graphic used for the bullet in the email?  I tried a variety of bullet types and they were always converted to the standard "dot" bullet when pasted.  If you can still duplicate this I would be interested in getting the source to try it here.

Part 2 - The reason the selected text was not replaced is that the bullet command (CRTL- PERIOD) is a toggle of the bullet style, not the insertion of a bullet graphic.  This behavior is as intended and mirrors other style changes such as bold or underline.

2) What I believe you are asking for here is an auto save feature.  I am not sure if that can be used in the middle of the wizard, but may be possible in SlideShow Builder - Auto Save for programs and SSB is already on the wish list - you could add one for the wizards if you like.

3) This would be a wish list item to add this option to the Text Slide Builder although you can do this now with some creative use of the Top Ten List Builder.  Things to be aware of is that in the Top Ten Builder they are presented in reverse order and it uses numbers instead of graphic bullets.  This would require some re-ordering and style editing but it might save you some time.  This would certainly be more useful as a feature to add bullets as separate objects.  Think about how you would like to see it implemented and add it to the Wish List.

4)  Is this in the Split text window?  I did see this behavior and reported it.

5) RE: Style during pasting - This has 2 parts:

Part 1 - I checked this in the wizards and it did preserve the style settings when copied/pasted inside the wizard fields.  If you still see this let us know..

Part 2 - in SSB there are several types of text fields.  It appears if you paste the text using a Regular Text field, the style is preserved but the other text field types appear to be removing the style info.  One note here - check your clipboard paste options in SSB under preferences -- We will look into this...

6) RE: Split Text titles:  Yes, sort of..  At the bottom of the Split Text box there is an optional title field that allows you to enter a different title than what is already in use but subsequent slides in the split will use that title plus a (2),(3), etc to cover all splits.  If you want something more specific, please add it to the wish list.

7) I am not sure if you are referring to naming of slides themselves or the display of the title on the slide when presented - there are a couple of options for both so if those do not fit your needs, think about how you would implement it and add it to the wish list.

I hope this helps - We really appreciate the feedback...

George Thanks for taking the time to revisit this I'll try to verify what you've stated

1) part 1 - I don't have one right now but when I Get another Bullet to paste (from the pastor) I'll paste it here and see what happens

1) Part 2 - I understand now

2) O.k. Thanks

3) I'll try to type this up and add it to the wish list

4) Yes in the Split Text Window

5) I Don't honestly remember exactly what I was trying to do (I'll Revisit again)

6) What I would Like to see is the ability to highlight something like the scripture reference and Press a button and make it the Title for that slide. I think this will have to be added to the Wish list.

7) What I was looking for was a "blank" title for some slides and when I blanked out the Title for those slides the Title displayed on the slide was Slide 8, Slide, Etc... when what I really wanted was nothing.

Thanks Again For your time,
Chris Garrett

cgarrett,

No problem -

A quick follow up on Item 7...

You can display a blank title by un-checking the "Include title on" option for the slides that you want no title displayed.  This setting is applicable per slide.

I got the sermon notes for Sunday's sermon and it still is doing the same thing. So I looked at the HTML Code.
It looks like the "n" (lowercase n) is a Block point in the Webdings font.

is there anything I can do about that?

thanks in advance,

Thanks,

Adding sounds to transitions by clee in User Support - V7

As a former PowerPoint user, I would often find the need to add sounds to my transitions, such as a bang, roar, etc.  any kind of a wav file.  Is there a way to do so in SSP?  For instance, in the middle of a bible verse, I want to add a sound effect.  The old way that I would do so in PowerPoint would be to duplicate a slide, and have no movement transition but sound only on the second slide.  I would advance the slide when the sound was needed.  I would really appreciate any advice on this!  Thx!

Here's the XML format that SSP uses.

Hopefully that will help. I've not tried it before.

Background improv issue by iamgap in User Support - V7

If Background Improv is set as your default motion background, you cannot use an image background. Even if you have Transparent as the Default Background. I have also tried No Change, and the Background Image will not show. I have to set Background Improv to None. IMO this negates the advantage of Background Improv.

This started as soon as I installed the 6/30/2009 update.

EDIT:
I just found that if I manually click the transparent button on the Plug-in Panel, the background image becomes available. It is as if the Display Properties is not triggering the Transparent option as it should.

RE: Import lots of XML Songs by iamgap in User Support - V7

I haven't used it, but there is an import from XML feature. It is not a default Plug-in, so you have to select it during the install. You can add it by running the SSP installer again. The installer will only install items you check. Also note that it is a Professional plug-in, so you cannot install it if you have a basic license.

You can also install the Plug-in using the SSP Updater. Start Menu\Programs\SongShow Plus\SongShow Plus Update. Select All available components and Click here to check for updates. XML Importer will be an option under the Proffessional Level Plug-ins.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by osborn4 in Latest News

If your projector has a freeze function and the content of the main screen isn't going to change, then you could freeze the main projector and show whatever you want on the secondary display.

But you'd have to remember to change what you are displaying back before you unfroze the main projector.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by bhackle2 in Latest News

If they make the second screen editable that would be hugh!

I was looking at Media Shout for that reason. Every support person I talked to said the same thing "the second display shows the same as the first except no background", but on the forums I found a person that found a way to edit the second display. I would rather use Song Show. Our media team really likes its ease of use.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by bhackle2 in Latest News

I'm excited about the secondary display output. Has anyone figured out how to edited the secondary display? We currently use two computers. One computer displaying lyrics only for the congregation, and the other computer displaying lyrics and notes to the praise team. If Song Show will allow editing of the secondary display, we can get by with one less computer and operator.

Yes. In SSP, go to Tools -> Utilities and select Data Files Setup From there, follow the bouncing ball.

You will need to be sure and have that drive attached whenever you fire up SSP. But I don't know why it wouldn't work.

Change DataPath to use external drive? by jmsuttle in User Support - V7

I just added an external drive to our media computer, and would like to change the data/file path for our SSP items to this external drive.  Is it possible to change the default file location?  If so, please direct me to the function in SSP.  The current location default is as follows:

DataPath: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\R-Technics\SongShow Plus

Thank you in advance,

Yes, you are correct. At least the public domain versions got loaded with the preview version. So I would assume they are still there.
