I am on a Vista (not SP1) Based AMD 4800+ machine w/ 2GB RAM and an ATI 3650 w/ Catalyst 8.5 drivers.  When I am using the worshipfilms sample videos as backgrounds they seem to freeze for just a sec whn I change stanzas in a song.  I am using teh Background Improv plug-in.  When I switch between backgrounds the one that I am switching out of seems to freeze halfway through the transition between the two.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chuck

Here's the official statement on Vista Compatibility.

I'd install SP1 for Vista and make sure I'm running the April 2008 release.

Then I'd check my video drivers.

Then I'd call Tech Support.

Chuck,

Regarding the Background Improv and the video "freeze"...

I looked at this and it actually appears that the playback is stopped on the first video when the second is invoked.

We are investigating this behavior...

George, I also noticed that over the weekend while using the latest beta.

I also found that I could not apply any Effects to Motion Backgrounds in Global.

Should I make a new thread?

We are also having issues with video backgrounds, numerous short pausing during the display of songs & when we transitions from one page to the next.

I, also, noticed that the CPU usage while SSP is displaying the black bkrgnd is quite high (28-38). When I go to edit the song, while the edit window opens we peak at 100.

We are currently running latest edition of April 2008.

Spec. 2.4 GHZ Dual Core, 2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon X300 128MB (Drivers updated to 08/2008), Win XP SP3.

We have never had issues with the January edition. Why now?

Lucas,
I checked the 8/15 beta and was able to add and apply effects to motion backgrounds in Global DP.  If you are still having this issue, start a thread in the Beta forum with details on what you are doing/seeing.

clc,

The CPU hit should not be that large for a black background.  The first thing I would try is setting global settings back to factory minimal or default to clear any possible hidden settings that are causing high utilization.  You can (and should) save your current settings before doing the reset.

Also the X300 is a little under powered for SSP although if it was working before it should still be fine, assuming you are doing the same kinds of things.  If the CPU gets maxed it could be taking a hit for what the video card can't handle.

I would cover the basics with the settings and then give support a call.  They can remote in and walk through what you are seeing - I am sure they can help.

Thx George. I will start there. Also, I went to the recommended vid cards thread for SSP, however I found those specific cards difficult to find for purchase. Could anyone recommend a decent (not needing to be cutting edge) video card that is readily available either Best Buy, Staples, etc or Tigerdirect.com, etc. Thx for any help.

Look for a nVidea GeForce 8600 or 8800 GT (or so) with 256mb or 512MB of video RAM.

Those are generally available at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for real reasonable.

This BGI behavior has been verified and restored to the correct cross-fade with both videos playing through the transition - This will be available in the July 2008 release when complete.

Thanks Joel, but there are a lot of 8600/8800 by different brands. Is anyone better than the other?

Well, the manufacturers of the specific cards that R-Technics recommends are BFG and eVGA, so I'd try them first.

We've done OK with Gigabyte and XFX (I work supporting 4400 PCs for a state agency).

We've had horrible luck with Jaton. I would use a candle and shadow puppets before I bought a Jaton card.

One note: be sure the card you buy will fit into the slot that your computer has. Usually that is PCI Express16. But never assume.

Although I'm pretty sure the x300 was a PCIx16 card. We had that card, too, and I hated it. Thing got much better when we upgraded to an x700.

Now we have the GeForce 8600 GT with 512MB that came with our GoFish computer and it rocks.

RE: Typical verse order by mmeltser in User Support - V7

Any thoughts on -- "how do I get a song in a program back to it's typical order? Is the only option to remove it and re-add it"

Thanks.

Sorry. No way to do that with SSP. Might make a good wish for the wishlist.

Adding sounds to transitions by clee in User Support - V7

As a former PowerPoint user, I would often find the need to add sounds to my transitions, such as a bang, roar, etc.  any kind of a wav file.  Is there a way to do so in SSP?  For instance, in the middle of a bible verse, I want to add a sound effect.  The old way that I would do so in PowerPoint would be to duplicate a slide, and have no movement transition but sound only on the second slide.  I would advance the slide when the sound was needed.  I would really appreciate any advice on this!  Thx!

Here's the XML format that SSP uses.

Hopefully that will help. I've not tried it before.

Background improv issue by iamgap in User Support - V7

If Background Improv is set as your default motion background, you cannot use an image background. Even if you have Transparent as the Default Background. I have also tried No Change, and the Background Image will not show. I have to set Background Improv to None. IMO this negates the advantage of Background Improv.

This started as soon as I installed the 6/30/2009 update.

EDIT:
I just found that if I manually click the transparent button on the Plug-in Panel, the background image becomes available. It is as if the Display Properties is not triggering the Transparent option as it should.

RE: Import lots of XML Songs by iamgap in User Support - V7

I haven't used it, but there is an import from XML feature. It is not a default Plug-in, so you have to select it during the install. You can add it by running the SSP installer again. The installer will only install items you check. Also note that it is a Professional plug-in, so you cannot install it if you have a basic license.

You can also install the Plug-in using the SSP Updater. Start Menu\Programs\SongShow Plus\SongShow Plus Update. Select All available components and Click here to check for updates. XML Importer will be an option under the Proffessional Level Plug-ins.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by osborn4 in Latest News

If your projector has a freeze function and the content of the main screen isn't going to change, then you could freeze the main projector and show whatever you want on the secondary display.

But you'd have to remember to change what you are displaying back before you unfroze the main projector.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by bhackle2 in Latest News

If they make the second screen editable that would be hugh!

I was looking at Media Shout for that reason. Every support person I talked to said the same thing "the second display shows the same as the first except no background", but on the forums I found a person that found a way to edit the second display. I would rather use Song Show. Our media team really likes its ease of use.

As I understand it, the feature will only show the same words on both monitors, just different formatting.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by bhackle2 in Latest News

I'm excited about the secondary display output. Has anyone figured out how to edited the secondary display? We currently use two computers. One computer displaying lyrics only for the congregation, and the other computer displaying lyrics and notes to the praise team. If Song Show will allow editing of the secondary display, we can get by with one less computer and operator.

RE: Change DataPath to use external drive? by osborn4 in User Support - V7

Yes. In SSP, go to Tools -> Utilities and select Data Files Setup From there, follow the bouncing ball.

You will need to be sure and have that drive attached whenever you fire up SSP. But I don't know why it wouldn't work.

Change DataPath to use external drive? by jmsuttle in User Support - V7

I just added an external drive to our media computer, and would like to change the data/file path for our SSP items to this external drive.  Is it possible to change the default file location?  If so, please direct me to the function in SSP.  The current location default is as follows:

DataPath: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\R-Technics\SongShow Plus

Thank you in advance,
Jessica

Thanks, Mark

Am I correct in my thinking that the New Public Bibles are already included in the install; and the $25 fee is per machine/per translation only for the bibles listed above?
Yes, you are correct. At least the public domain versions got loaded with the preview version. So I would assume they are still there.
