I Was looking into new arrangements of the screen.

One of the main thing i was debating was all caps lyrics or regular.

Another was where to put the credit and how.
Like the CCLI, copyright and author.

Any help or screenshots of what you have would be appreciated.

All caps is very difficult to read, so I stay away from that.

I put the lyrics on the top 80% (or so) of the screen, then on the bottom, I put the title over the author, taking about 2/3 the width. Then I put the copyright with CCLI info on the right 2/3 of the bottom.

I also check the box in display properties that only puts those items on the first verse.

We have our set about the opposite.
The Title is about 50% of the width, on the left, with the copywrite 50% on the right. This is above the lyrics. Because the First slide only option only works if you stay in sequence, we don't use that option. Not being able to use that real estate when the titile isn't displayed makes it unnecessary for us. We keep the font size consistent, at 22pt, and try to stay at four lines a slide. If the song is word, and doesn't break well, we will have six or seven lines. More than 8 overflows the screen. We have these settings to make it easier for the back row of the choir to see the confidence monitors.

I am experimenting with adding an "Intro" part to the song, with just one space in the lyrics and having that as the first slide in the sequence.

That way I can put that up while the band is playing the intro to the song and go to the lyrics when appropriate. I really like the less cluttered look of not having all the title/author/copyright on the all the lyrics slides.

I'd like to just use the blank as the first piece, but then the title/author/copyright info never shows up. And that, of course, is a violation of the CCLI projection license.

I also have short people in the congregation complain if I don't put lyrics clear to the top of the screen.

Fortunately, SSP is flexible enough for most all our tastes.

We have chandeliers that partially block the screen from the back portion of the sancturary, so we have to keep the lyrics low. We could raise them to the proper level, but the the people that paid to have them installed wouldn't be able to worshiip.. err.. I mean see them. ;)

Thanks All those were helpful.
Yeah and I do agree with the whole having the copyright stuff on every slide.

This is what our format is currently and its exactly like that.

This is not a criticism, but just an observation: "experts" in this area say that centered text is more difficult to read than is left-justified text. Assuming that is correct, you might consider trading some symmetry for readability. I have gone from centered to left-justified text for the majority of our songs, slides, and scripture. Just a thought.

I will left, center or right justify, depending on the background. Left justified may be easiest to read, but I think that with the small snippets of words, other justification is ok.

But I certainly wouldn't want to read War and Peace center justified.

And, one of the great things about SSP is that we can all make our own decisions about that.

Ok by listening to people and varying ideas This is what I came up with. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'm not sure about the Left Justify. I think we will keep with center because of some of our backgrounds. I do agree with left being easier, but with a that has a frame type does not look good. Thanks.

As a new user, I can't claim much credit for this, but... A while back Karen39 suggested the "trick" of adding a "Verse 8" to the song and using that as the first slide. On that slide she displayed the copyright information.

This can be taken one step further by enhancing the layout template as follows:
  • Move the text box for the lyrics upward, so it's about 2/3 off screen
  • Move and size the Ttitle, Author, Reference and copyright boxes as desired
  • Slide the text box for lyrics back, and adjust so it fills the slide
  • On the Show tab, display title, etc on first slide only
  • Save as Preset
In the database, create a Verse 8 for the song and put it first in the order. (The verse has only a single space.

I then create a program level default format, using the preset. For the Doxology, which is only one slide, I set its display properties in the database to not use the title slide.

Here's what my title slide looks like:

Welcome aboard, Skip. And thanks for sharing.

With custom song parts, I'm adding a part called "Opening" that has no text and using it in the same way.

But I'm just leaving the title and info at the bottom of the screen, leaving the background graphic for the main part of the screen.

But for those that want a larger title screen, yours is certainly a good way to go.

RE: Typical verse order by mmeltser in User Support - V7

Any thoughts on -- "how do I get a song in a program back to it's typical order? Is the only option to remove it and re-add it"

Thanks.

Adding sounds to transitions by clee in User Support - V7

As a former PowerPoint user, I would often find the need to add sounds to my transitions, such as a bang, roar, etc.  any kind of a wav file.  Is there a way to do so in SSP?  For instance, in the middle of a bible verse, I want to add a sound effect.  The old way that I would do so in PowerPoint would be to duplicate a slide, and have no movement transition but sound only on the second slide.  I would advance the slide when the sound was needed.  I would really appreciate any advice on this!  Thx!

Here's the XML format that SSP uses.

Hopefully that will help. I've not tried it before.

Background improv issue by iamgap in User Support - V7

If Background Improv is set as your default motion background, you cannot use an image background. Even if you have Transparent as the Default Background. I have also tried No Change, and the Background Image will not show. I have to set Background Improv to None. IMO this negates the advantage of Background Improv.

This started as soon as I installed the 6/30/2009 update.

EDIT:
I just found that if I manually click the transparent button on the Plug-in Panel, the background image becomes available. It is as if the Display Properties is not triggering the Transparent option as it should.

RE: Import lots of XML Songs by iamgap in User Support - V7

I haven't used it, but there is an import from XML feature. It is not a default Plug-in, so you have to select it during the install. You can add it by running the SSP installer again. The installer will only install items you check. Also note that it is a Professional plug-in, so you cannot install it if you have a basic license.

You can also install the Plug-in using the SSP Updater. Start Menu\Programs\SongShow Plus\SongShow Plus Update. Select All available components and Click here to check for updates. XML Importer will be an option under the Proffessional Level Plug-ins.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by osborn4 in Latest News

If your projector has a freeze function and the content of the main screen isn't going to change, then you could freeze the main projector and show whatever you want on the secondary display.

But you'd have to remember to change what you are displaying back before you unfroze the main projector.

If they make the second screen editable that would be hugh!

I was looking at Media Shout for that reason. Every support person I talked to said the same thing "the second display shows the same as the first except no background", but on the forums I found a person that found a way to edit the second display. I would rather use Song Show. Our media team really likes its ease of use.

As I understand it, the feature will only show the same words on both monitors, just different formatting.

RE: May 2009 Edition Released by bhackle2 in Latest News

I'm excited about the secondary display output. Has anyone figured out how to edited the secondary display? We currently use two computers. One computer displaying lyrics only for the congregation, and the other computer displaying lyrics and notes to the praise team. If Song Show will allow editing of the secondary display, we can get by with one less computer and operator.

RE: Change DataPath to use external drive? by osborn4 in User Support - V7

Yes. In SSP, go to Tools -> Utilities and select Data Files Setup From there, follow the bouncing ball.

You will need to be sure and have that drive attached whenever you fire up SSP. But I don't know why it wouldn't work.

Change DataPath to use external drive? by jmsuttle in User Support - V7

I just added an external drive to our media computer, and would like to change the data/file path for our SSP items to this external drive.  Is it possible to change the default file location?  If so, please direct me to the function in SSP.  The current location default is as follows:

DataPath: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\R-Technics\SongShow Plus

Thank you in advance,
Jessica

Thanks, Mark

Am I correct in my thinking that the New Public Bibles are already included in the install; and the $25 fee is per machine/per translation only for the bibles listed above?
Yes, you are correct. At least the public domain versions got loaded with the preview version. So I would assume they are still there.
