A short discussion about the differences between SSP's Photo Slides Builder and Microsoft's Photo Story.

I gotta admit, for a lot of the stuff, I like the full screen of PhotoStory vs. the framed pics in PSB.

I also really like the UI for setting the pan/zoom in PhotoStory.

But it is nice to have the caption out of the picture frame. And it's really nice that you don't have to rerender an entire .wmv when you make a change, like you do in PhotoStory.

And I like the way that PhotoStory keeps the picture moving while the next pic fades in. But I know there are times that I wanted PhotoStory to be able to zoom in full and stay there, and that isn't an option, like it is with PSB.

You can adjust the layout area in Photo Slides Builder to use the entire slide for the image. In this case, the caption would remain static while rendered over the image. The non-caption version of Photo Slides Builder automatically defaults to using the entire slide are for the image.

I know what the issue is. When I did the PSB slide show last weekend, several pics were portrait, not landscape, and pan/zoom left the black edges on the slide. I didn't know enough to try to work around that.

Make sure that you have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed.

Ah yes. When the aspect ratio of the image does not match the aspect ratio of the display, SSP will present the pan / zoom differently than what PhotoStory does. That has been the topic of some internal discussion here.

I also can't see the movies and have updated the flash. The page never gets finished loading. I've left it for 1-2 Hours and they're still loading. This also is the case on the last Blog entry.

I'm not on dialup so it should be done in a few seconds.

It works for me in Fire Fox 3. So I installed the latest player and it still won't load in IE7 on XP Pro or Vista.

I agree about the better pan and zoom in SSP's product. I also like it that there is more space for a "lightbox" and the ability to move slides around in that space.

I don't like that when you are finished your slide show can only be seen in SSP. I wish there were an export function to export the slide show to other formats.

However, SSP's Photo Slides Builder is a good product.

I love Sydney.

Because I prefer a higher type of control, I probably would not use this tool, but use Premiere/ After Effects to do what I want.

This blog was about Photo Slides Builder vs. PhotoStory, not Photo Slides Builder vs. Premier / After Effects .

What higher type of control would you use? Is there simple version of that control that could be implemented in an easy-to-use builder?
