When running SSP, it is necessary to have Full Control access to two shared folders. By default, limited user accounts only have access to read these folders. For local user accounts, this is simply a matter of assigning Full Control access to the Users group for these folders.

The following instructions will step you through the process to assign the necessary rights to the shared folders used by SSP:
(The following instructions are applicable to Windows XP Professional, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 systems.)

1. Log-in as an administrator.
2. Open the SongShow Plus Utilities found in the SongShow Plus program group from the Windows Start button (typically Start > All Programs > SongShow Plus > Utilities).
3. Click the Folder Security button. This will open the Folder Security window showing the two shared paths.
4. Click on the Properties button for the first folder. This will open the properties window for that folder.
5. Click on the Security tab. From here, you can grant Full Control access to the folder. Typically, this means allowing Full Control permission to the Users group. You can also specify this permission to specific accounts or domain groups. If you do not see the Security tab, see the section below.*
6. Click OK to save the changes.
7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for the second folder listed.
8. Close the Folder Security window.
9. Log back in as the regular user. Test SSP to ensure that it now has Full Control access to these folders.

*If there is no Security tab in the folder properties window, this means that your system is set up with simple file sharing. Before proceeding with the security settings, you will need to disable simple file sharing. To do this:

1. Within the Folder Security window, click the Folder Options button.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Find the User simple file sharing option at the bottom of the list, and ensure that it is unchecked.
4. Click OK to close the window. You can now reopen the folder properties windows to set the security permissions for the folders.

Version 7 January 2008 Edition and earlier, Versions 5.5 and 5.3**

The SSP setup program attempts to make the necessary security changes to enable non-Administrator users to run SSP. However, this process does not always succeed. Also, versions of SSP prior to 5.5 did not make all of the necessary security changes.

If you are unable to run SSP in a non-Administrator account, ensure the following:

• Read/write access is permitted to the shared application data folder
  • XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\r-technics\SongShow Plus^*
  • Vista: C:\ProgramData\R-Technics\SongShow Plus*
• Read/write access is permitted to the shared documents folder:
  • XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\shared documents\r-technics\SongShow Plus^*
  • Vista: c:\users\public\documents\R-Technics\SongShow Plus*
• Read/write access is permitted to the user or user group for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RTechnics\SongShow Plus"

^*Note: These are the typical paths for Windows installations and the default installation of SSP. Your configuration could be different if the default settings were not used.

**Note: It is not recommended to run any version of SSP on Windows Vista that is prior to the April 2007 Edition.

Versions 5.2 and earlier

These versions of SSP stored user and program data along with the program files. For these versions of SSP to work in a non-administrator account the following permission must be granted:

• Read/write access is permitted to the SSP program files folder: "C:\Program Files\R-Technics\SongShow Plus" or "C:\Program Files\RTechnics\SongShow Plus"*
• Read/write access is permitted to the user or user group for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RTechnics\SongShow Plus"
