PowerDVD is a software DVD Player for Microsoft Windows. It is one of the software player options you can use to provide the necessary system capabilities that allow SSP to playback DVDs.

With the October 2006 Edition of SSP 7, tests were performed with the SSP DVD capabilities and PowerDVD versions 6 and 7. These tests showed that PowerDVD was compatible with SSP for DVD and MPEG-2 playback.

When DVD support for SSP as first introduced in 2003, tests had shown that the version of PowerDVD available at that time was not compatible with PowerDVD. That is no longer the case with the current versions of SSP and PowerDVD. Tests have been performed with PowerDVD versions 6 and 7.

Version 7 is the most recent and has had the most testing so it is preferred over version 6.

PowerDVD also installs the necessary codecs that let you play MPEG-2 files. This makes PowerDVD a good choice for providing DVD and MPEG-2 support to SSP.

PowerDVD is produced by
CyberLink.

UPDATE: Testing was completed and KB article SW020 has been updated.

Cyberlink has has released a new version of the PowerDVD line called PowerDVD 8.

This new version has not been tested for compatibility with SongShow Plus at this time, but will be at some point.

Our current recommendations of WinDVD 8 and PowerDVD 7 are still valid.  Please see additional KB articles regarding these products.

After some testing with SSP and PowerDVD9 we have discovered issues preventing the DVD import/playback in SSP from working properly.  We will continue testing to determine the cause of the issues and post updates here when available.
