The latest attempt by Microsoft to gain control of a technology is the new Windows Media 9 format, touted to be the replacement for MPEG-2. If you've used Microsoft Movie Maker, you'll notice that it only creates WMV files rather than AVI files, which has been the standard media format for quite some time. WMV files do appear to compress better than MPEG-2 files with the same video quality if not better.
SongShow Plus will play back WMV files. However, in versions 5.3 and earlier, when doing so, the user does not have the capability to seek to a specific frame in the video file. This also means that specifying start and stop positions is not supported in these versions.
In versions 5.5 and 7.0 the user is able to set start and stop positions.
